Brighton & Hove Albion have secured Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal valued at a club-record £46 million. The 19-year-old has signed a five-year agreement, which includes an option to extend the stay for an additional year. While two earlier offers were rejected, the total cost could climb to £50 million depending on performance-related incentives.
Vuskovic initially moved to Tottenham in 2025 following a prior agreement with the North London club. He spent the previous campaign on loan at Hamburg, where he played 30 times and netted six goals, earning him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season title and a position in the league’s Team of the Year.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, noting the club’s extensive scouting of the player. Hurzeler emphasized that while Vuskovic has performed at a top level, the club remains mindful of the need for him to adapt to the Premier League environment. As part of this roster adjustment, Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke has completed a £52 million transfer to Tottenham.
Having made his World Cup debut for Croatia against England earlier this summer, Vuskovic brings international experience to the South Coast. The defender, who began his professional path at Hajduk Split as the youngest player in Croatia’s top division, is expected to settle into the Brighton squad ahead of their season opener against Aston Villa on August 23.
