The Benue State Police Command has taken five Pakistani citizens into custody following intelligence-driven operations in the Otukpo and Ugbokolo regions. Authorities recovered 35 mobile devices during these actions, which were prompted by reports regarding the group’s suspicious activities.
DSP Peter Aondongu, the police spokesperson, noted that Younas Mohammad, Ahmad Nunil, and Aslam Muhammad were detained on August 4, 2026, at Adoka Motor Park. While the men claimed they were in the area to sell electronics and cosmetics, police found no such inventory on them, raising concerns about their true intentions. A following operation on August 5 led to the arrest of Juma Sharif and Muhammed Sharif at an Ugbokolo hotel. Officers discovered 11 Tecno Camon 50 Pro devices in their possession, and subsequent follow-ups resulted in the recovery of 23 additional Tecno phones and one Infinix handset.
The suspects, who struggle with the English language, have been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Makurdi for thorough questioning. Police suspect the mobile devices may have been used as a front for hidden illegal operations in rural communities. Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu praised the cooperation of local citizens and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to preemptive security measures to protect the public.
