Several Nigerian soldiers and armed bandits lost their lives on Tuesday, June 24, following a series of coordinated assaults on forward operating military bases in parts of Kaduna and Niger States.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the deadly engagements in a statement released Wednesday, noting that the bandits launched simultaneous three-pronged attacks on bases located in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka (Niger State), as well as Aungwan Turai in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Responding swiftly, troops from both the land and air components of the military mounted counteroffensives, neutralizing scores of the attackers in the process.
“On June 24, 2025, forward operating bases… were attacked by bandits in a three-pronged attack. In response, land and air component troops launched several counterattacks that eliminated scores of bandits in the encounters,” the army stated via its official X handle.
Despite the successful repulsion of the assaults, the army confirmed that “some gallant warriors paid the supreme price in the day-long battles.” Four additional soldiers sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical attention.
The military said further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
The latest attack underscores the continuing security challenges in the northwest and north-central regions of Nigeria, where armed banditry and rural insurgency have persisted despite multiple military operations.
