Babcock VC Reaffirms Commitment To Producing Employable Graduates

The Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, Ilishan Remo, Professor Ademola Tayo, has reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to producing graduates who are not only academically and socially well-rounded but also equipped with practical skills to thrive beyond the university and build successful careers. In a statement released on Wednesday, Tayo highlighted this commitment while launching the university’s annual Graduating Class Week, an event organized for over 3,000 final-year students set to graduate in June. He described the event as a valuable opportunity for students to engage with industry experts, professionals, and potential employers, who share insights drawn from their vast experience. According to him, the program is designed to complement the university’s academic training by providing students with real-world perspectives that will help them transition smoothly into life after school. The VC said, “After the final examination, back then every student would leave the school without this kind of experience, but in Babcock University, we don’t only train them to be academically and socially sound, we also get them ready to navigate their ways through future careers.”

He pointed out that one of the alumni, who diligently took notes at a similar career fair in the past, used the ideas she gathered from the event to her advantage and is now much better off.

The VC added, “I therefore want to encourage you not to allow this programme to be just for relaxation alone, find time to gather information as you will be leaving the school shortly. This is a platform to connect with people who have been there and have succeeded.

“Ask questions of them and look for ways to collaborate further and make the most of this opportunity, engage with industry experts and learn as much as you can.”

Speaking on the significance of the program, Dr. Dangana Jonathan, the Director of Alumni and Connectivity at the university, explained that the annual event is designed to expose students to additional skills and qualities that will guide them as they navigate their careers after leaving the university.

Dangana explained, “What we do during this annual event is to further reinforce the skills that will have been infused into the students in the last four years, sharpen them and get them more equipped with the hands-on skills that could help them navigate life outside the schools. It is geared towards reducing the quantum of unemployed graduates in the country”.
