Authorities examine passing of Law School student in Lagos residence

Lagos police are investigating the death of 23-year-old law student Alayande Faith Ajoke, who was found unresponsive at her Victoria Island hostel on August 7, 2026.

Law enforcement in Lagos has launched an inquiry into the demise of a 23-year-old Nigerian Law School student. The tragedy unfolded on the morning of Friday, August 7, 2026, at the school’s hostel located in Victoria Island.

Mrs. Igbokwe Juliana, the Chief Matron, notified the Victoria Island Police Division of the situation around 6:30 a.m. Earlier that morning, at 4:30 a.m., fellow student Ojo Abisoye Tinuola had raised the alarm after finding her roommate, Alayande Faith Ajoke, in a state of distress. Upon arriving at the site, the matron discovered the student on the ground.

Initial findings point toward a potential fall from the roof of the four-story facility. Investigators also recovered two notes reportedly written by the student, directed to her roommate and stepfather. Officers have processed the scene and transported the body to the Mainland General Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for a formal autopsy. Officials confirm that the investigation remains active as they work to clarify the details of the event.
