Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold the integrity of the imminent gubernatorial race in Osun State. He issued this statement on Wednesday in Abuja during the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Youth Leadership Summit.
Highlighting the significance of the event, the presidential candidate noted that the Osun election serves as a critical indicator for the 2027 general polls. He explicitly demanded that INEC prevent any technical failures, delays, or electoral manipulation. According to Atiku, officials must ensure the timely delivery of materials, protect the rights of voters, and oversee a transparent counting and transmission process.
Furthermore, Atiku called upon President Bola Tinubu and his administration to avoid utilizing state institutions for political gain. He also urged security forces to prioritize the protection of the electorate rather than engaging in intimidation, emphasizing that their primary duty is to maintain a safe environment for citizens to cast their ballots.
