The Ibadan Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a formal warning to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. The union is demanding the full execution of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement within state-run universities, setting a deadline of July 2026. Failure to meet these requirements, the union warns, will lead to an indefinite strike.
During a gathering at Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, the zone emphasized that its patience has reached a limit. Zonal Coordinator Professor Biodun Olaniran stated that members are suffering under current economic pressures due to the lack of financial backing for the agreement from state authorities. The union specifically cited the need for immediate action at Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, and Kwara State University.
The union expects the next salary payments to include all allowances and the CATA component, along with the settlement of all arrears starting from January 2026. While the union praised the efforts of the university governing councils, they labeled the governors’ inaction as unjust. Professor Olaniran confirmed that members have already begun mobilizing for a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike to ensure their demands are met.
Additionally, the union addressed the broader security challenges facing the country, calling for stronger measures to protect citizens and communities. ASUU asserted that a secure environment is essential for the success of the educational sector.
