The Association of Igbo Town Unions (ASITU) has expressed strong disapproval regarding the All Progressives Congress (APC) maintaining a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket. The group argues that this configuration is inherently inequitable and ignores the religious heterogeneity of Nigeria.
National President of ASITU, Chief Emeka Diwe, stated that this approach threatens national harmony and fails to provide adequate representation for the country’s various faith groups. He emphasized that the government must prioritize inclusivity to ensure that no specific religion feels marginalized, suggesting that political strategies should not supersede the requirement for national cohesion.
Diwe warned that ignoring these cultural realities could worsen existing religious friction. He called upon President Bola Tinubu and the APC to make national unity and balanced representation central priorities in their upcoming political planning.
