Arise News Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu Killed In Abuja Robbery
Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu has been killed following a robbery attack at her home in Katampe, Abuja. She was 29.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025. In a statement signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi, the management of Arise News confirmed her death and described her as a cherished colleague and a vibrant voice who connected deeply with viewers.
“Sommie, 29, was not only a cherished member of the ARISE News family but also a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers. Beyond the airwaves, she was a lawyer, a professional and supportive colleague, and a friend to many,” the statement read.
The organisation extended condolences to her family and loved ones while calling for a swift investigation and prosecution of those behind the attack.
Maduagwu, born on December 26, 1995, joined Arise News as an anchor, reporter, and producer, earning respect for her passion and professionalism.
The Nigeria Police have launched an investigation into the robbery.
