APC Member Ayekooto Defends Remi Tinubu’s Business Remarks

APC chieftain Ayekooto Akindele defends First Lady Remi Tinubu’s viral business advice, stating it was aimed at the poor rather than critics or political opponents.

All Progressives Congress figure Ayekooto Akindele has clarified that First Lady Remi Tinubu’s recent remarks regarding small-scale entrepreneurship were not directed at internet scammers or supporters of Peter Obi. In a widely circulated video, the First Lady suggested that women could sustain themselves by establishing modest ventures such as selling roasted corn, kulikuli, or frying bean cakes, known as akara.

This statement drew significant criticism from many online users who perceived the comments as patronizing toward unemployed youth. Addressing the situation on X, Akindele defended the First Lady, asserting that her message was intended for citizens struggling with poverty. He noted that the items mentioned are staples in many Nigerian households. Akindele argued that critics look down on these trades, desiring more lucrative business opportunities instead. He emphasized that the First Lady’s intent was to encourage dignified, lawful work for those seeking to earn a living without resorting to illicit activities.
