President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally terminated the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) tasked with the alienation of federal government properties. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, confirmed the move on Thursday, stating that all responsibilities previously held by the PIC are now under the authority of Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
Established in 2000 during the tenure of President Olusegun Obasanjo, the committee was created to manage the leasing and sale of government-owned real estate as part of a national monetization strategy. Originally chaired by the Minister of Housing, the body included delegates from several federal ministries and the police force, with Professor P.T. Ahire serving as its first secretary. In 2001, a specific inquiry panel was formed to formalize the group’s operational guidelines.
The government decided to dissolve the body after determining that its functions had strayed from the original objectives, which subsequently triggered numerous legal disputes nationwide. With the dissolution effective November 5, 2025, former secretary B.S. Dutsin-Ma has been instructed to stop representing the committee or the government in these matters.
