APC Leader Oyintiloye Lauds Senate Move to Establish State Police

APC chieftain Olatunbosun Oyintiloye praises the Senate’s approval of state police as a historic step toward a more effective and decentralized security system in Nigeria.

Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a key figure in the All Progressives Congress, has celebrated the Senate’s recent authorization of state-level police forces. He characterized the decision as a landmark achievement for Nigeria’s security framework, emphasizing that it paves the way for a more localized and efficient approach to law enforcement.

Addressing the press in Osogbo, Oyintiloye noted that this development fulfills a long-standing personal campaign he has led for years. He credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership in enabling this significant policy shift. According to Oyintiloye, the centralized policing model has historically struggled to address the country’s diverse and emerging security threats.

The former lawmaker argued that a multi-layered security strategy, incorporating tools like drones, CCTV, and advanced databases, is essential. He suggested that such reforms will improve intelligence sharing and response times while allowing for stronger collaboration with community leaders and traditional figures.

Referencing successful models like the Amotekun Corps, he noted that locally driven security is often the most effective. Oyintiloye also praised Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other lawmakers for their commitment to this reform. He concluded by urging authorities to prioritize accountability, professionalism, and human rights as they transition to this decentralized system.
