Andoni Iraola expresses desire to retain Alisson and Mac Allister

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola says he wants to keep Alexis Mac Allister and Alisson at Anfield while admitting a need for defensive reinforcements due to injuries.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has confirmed his intention to keep both Alexis Mac Allister and Alisson Becker at the club. Addressing the media in Chicago during the team’s pre-season tour, Iraola emphasized the importance of his current roster.

Mac Allister, the 27-year-old Argentine midfielder, has two years remaining on his contract. Despite recent rumors of a potential transfer, Iraola praised his performance at the 2026 World Cup and his contributions to Liverpool, stating that he intends to prioritize new signings over losing established talent.

Similarly, the manager expressed his commitment to keeping Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson. While the 33-year-old has been linked to Juventus with only one year left on his deal, Iraola values the veteran’s experience as essential for helping newer, younger squad members integrate into the team.

Beyond maintaining his current core, Iraola noted a pressing need for defensive reinforcements. He specifically identified a requirement for depth at right-back, as Conor Bradley is expected to remain sidelined for several months following a knee injury sustained in January. The manager admitted that the team is currently thin in defensive positions and indicated that the club is actively searching for solutions before the transfer window closes.
