Nnanna Ama Oji has officially taken charge as the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, committing to a leadership style centered on public trust and grassroots collaboration. During his first press briefing in Awka, he emphasized that security efforts will be shaped by the concerns of local residents rather than top-down mandates.
The Commissioner issued a stern warning against extortion by police officers across the state, noting that strict enforcement is already underway to ensure accountability. While he encouraged citizens to assist by providing evidence of misconduct, he urged the public to avoid filming officers simply to mock them.
To bolster security, the command plans to integrate advanced technology, intelligence gathering, and deeper partnerships with vigilante groups and other security agencies. Ama Oji noted that he aims to create a legitimate environment where residents feel safe and willing to cooperate with law enforcement.
A graduate of the University of Jos with a degree in Psychology, Ama Oji joined the force as a Cadet Superintendent. He steps into this role following the retirement of AIG Ikioye Orutugu, bringing an extensive background in tactical operations and criminal investigation to the Anambra State Command.
