Anambra Man Arrested For Allegedly Killing Relative In Land Dispute
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested 45-year-old Okwuchukwu Ezimuo for allegedly stabbing his relative, Joseph Dike, to death during a quarrel over family land in Umunocha Village, Awka-Etiti, Idemili South Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when Ezimuo reportedly struck 65-year-old Dike in the chest. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.
Police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, noting that officers from the Nnobi Divisional Headquarters recovered evidence from the crime scene and placed the suspect in custody for interrogation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the incident, urging residents to embrace peaceful conflict resolution rather than resorting to violence. He directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigation.
The tragic killing adds to a series of violent family disputes in the state. Earlier this year, another man was arrested for fatally stabbing his elder brother during an altercation, sparking renewed calls for non-violent approaches to resolving communal and family disagreements.
