Anambra High Court permits Peter Obi to serve Kenneth Okonkwo via substituted service

A High Court in Anambra State has allowed Peter Obi to serve legal processes on Kenneth Okonkwo through substituted means after personal service attempts failed.

An Anambra State High Court located in the Onitsha Judicial Division has authorized presidential candidate Peter Obi to serve legal documents to politician Kenneth Okonkwo using substituted service. Valentine Obienyem, a media aide for Obi, announced the news via Facebook.

Justice D.A. Onyefulu issued the order on June 30, 2026, regarding Suit No. O/229/2026. This decision followed an ex parte motion presented by legal counsel Chisom Ibemesi, who provided evidence that previous efforts by court bailiffs to deliver documents to Okonkwo in person were unsuccessful.

The court mandates that the summons and subsequent papers be served by pasting them at Okonkwo’s final known residence at NPR 48 Ofuluonu, Nsukka, Enugu State, or by handing them to any adult present at that location. Proof of this action, including photographic documentation, must be filed with the court within a seven-day window.

This ruling is supported by the 1999 Constitution and the Anambra State High Court Civil Procedure Rules of 2019. The order ensures that the lawsuit can move forward while the substantive case awaits a formal hearing.
