Anambra CP Urges Indigenes To Return Home For Christmas, Declares State Safe And Peaceful
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has called on indigenes living abroad and across Nigeria to return home in large numbers for the upcoming Christmas celebrations, assuring that the state is safe and secure.
Speaking on Sunday night, November 9, after what has been widely hailed as the most peaceful governorship election in the state’s history, Orutugu declared Anambra “free and peaceful,” citing the success of recent security operations and reforms under his watch.
“Anambra is a safe place. Prepare and come home for Christmas,” he said, reaffirming the command’s readiness to ensure a crime-free festive season.
The Police Commissioner, who assumed office nine months ago, noted that deliberate, intelligence-driven, and community-based strategies have transformed the state’s security landscape.
Known for his “policing without guns” philosophy, Orutugu explained that his approach focuses on emotional intelligence, counseling, and conscience-driven engagement.
“I police not your actions but your emotions by counseling, appealing to your conscience,” he said.
He revealed that his first step was to strengthen collaboration with traditional rulers, youth groups, and religious leaders, a move that has improved early intelligence sharing and fostered public trust in the police.
According to him, the flashpoint deployment strategy has ensured that all local government areas and border communities remain under close security monitoring.
On accountability, Orutugu stressed zero tolerance for misconduct, extortion, or abuse of power, insisting that professionalism and respect for human rights are now the hallmarks of policing in Anambra.
“Residents and indigenes returning home for the festive season can expect visible patrols, rapid response readiness, and proactive intelligence-driven policing designed to protect lives and property,” he assured.
He concluded that the combination of strategic deployment and community engagement has made Anambra a model of peace and security in the region, adding,
“Through deliberate policing and grassroots collaboration, we have maintained peace. Anambra is ready for the festive season. Come home.”
