Amnesty International Urges DSS to Charge or Release Tahiru Mohammed Salihu

Amnesty International is calling for the immediate release or prosecution of Engr. Tahiru Mohammed Salihu, who has been held by the DSS without legal or family access since early 2023.

Amnesty International is pressuring the Department of State Services to release Engr. Tahiru Mohammed Salihu or bring him before a judge. He has been in custody since February 2023, reportedly denied contact with his lawyers and relatives.

The group claims that DSS agents took Salihu from his Kubwa, Abuja home during a 4:30 am raid on February 4, 2023. Since that morning, his family has been kept in the dark regarding his status and safety, as legal representatives have failed to secure access to him.

In a formal statement, Amnesty International condemned this extended detention, stating it displays a disregard for legal standards and increases the potential for abuse or torture. The group insists that Nigerian officials must follow both national laws and global human rights treaties by allowing Salihu to see his family and legal team immediately.

Ultimately, the organization emphasizes that security forces must respect due process. While Amnesty International pushes for a resolution, the DSS has yet to issue a public comment on the matter.
