Akpabio’s aide disputes Peter Obi’s critique of State Police legislation

Senate President Akpabio’s aide, Tijani Mustapha, criticizes Peter Obi for commenting on the State Police Bill without having read it.

Tijani Mustapha, the media advisor to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has publicly challenged Peter Obi regarding his disapproval of the State Police Bill. Following Obi’s critique on social media, Mustapha asserted that the former presidential candidate neglected to study the actual text of the law before voicing his objections.

Obi had previously claimed the Senate passed the legislation in a rushed manner, suggesting the lack of a public hearing indicated improper procedure and fueled suspicions about underlying political motivations. He specifically warned that state governors might weaponize a regional police force to silence their political rivals.

In his rebuttal, Mustapha dismissed these arguments, maintaining that Obi’s concerns were unfounded. He pointed out that the approved legislation explicitly includes provisions for an independent State Police Service Commission, which directly addresses the issue raised by Obi. Mustapha concluded by questioning Obi’s comprehension of the matter, mockingly referencing the former candidate’s grasp of administrative terminology.
