Persistent speculation regarding the potential replacement of Omar Suleiman as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) gubernatorial candidate for Adamawa State continues to surface. Initially, reports suggested that Suleiman, known locally as Omrana, might be succeeded by Abdulrahman Haske, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant. However, after Haske rejoined the APC, new claims emerged over the weekend suggesting that Alhaji Tukur Modibbo was being positioned to take over the candidacy.
Suleiman Adamu Jimeta, a founding ADC member in the state, publicly refuted these allegations on Tuesday, characterizing them as inaccurate and harmful to the party’s stability. He dismissed claims that party leadership viewed Modibbo as a more suitable option, noting that no formal communication regarding such a transition has occurred. Jimeta reaffirmed that Omar Suleiman is the authorized candidate who has diligently built support among the membership.
He warned that these rumors foster unnecessary friction and could undermine the organization’s prospects for the 2027 elections. As of Tuesday evening, the Adamawa State ADC leadership had not released any official documentation indicating a change in their nomination.
