The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected suggestions that a recent Court of Appeal decision regarding party congresses will disrupt its presidential ticket for the 2027 elections. The ruling specifically restricted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing congresses organized by committees under Senator David Mark’s caretaker leadership, but the party insists this does not impact its candidate selection.
Former national chairman Ralph Nwosu emphasized that the judgment focuses solely on the election of local party executives rather than the party’s primary elections. He confirmed that the names of presidential nominee Atiku Abubakar, running mate Rotimi Amaechi, and all National Assembly candidates have already been officially submitted to INEC.
Nwosu defended the validity of the current National Working Committee led by David Mark, noting that previous court rulings and INEC verification have already validated their selection process. He explained that the presidential candidates were chosen through direct primaries where every registered party member voted under the supervision of the electoral commission.
Regarding internal disputes over state-level leadership tenures, Nwosu dismissed the opposition as politically driven maneuvers. He maintained that the party is focused on the future, asserting that Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi remain the party’s official choices for the 2027 contest.
