Ayo Oritsejafor claims his warnings about the Buhari administration went unheeded

Former CAN President Ayo Oritsejafor reflects on his unheeded warnings regarding the Buhari administration, explaining why he has returned to public discourse amid current national struggles.

Ayo Oritsejafor, the former leader of the Christian Association of Nigeria, stated that he alerted the public prior to the 2015 elections that Muhammadu Buhari’s presidency would struggle, yet his warnings were dismissed. During an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Oritsejafor noted that he recognized the incoming administration would face significant issues back in 2014.

The cleric explained that the escalating difficulties faced by citizens prompted him to break his long period of public silence. As a pastor, he feels an obligation to advocate for his congregation and hold leadership accountable. He rejected accusations that his recent lack of political commentary indicated complicity or bias toward former President Goodluck Jonathan. Instead, he maintained that he withdrew from the conversation because his efforts to counsel the nation on potential consequences were consistently ignored.

Oritsejafor emphasized that he could not compel citizens to accept his guidance, so he opted to observe the nation’s decline from a distance. With the country currently grappling with economic hardship and the buildup toward the 2027 elections, he concluded that now is the appropriate time to speak out once more.
