The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has mandated that all state-level branches and personnel must immediately hand over any court documents served to them to the party’s national legal adviser. The party emphasized that no state officer or representative possesses the constitutional power to accept legal notices or retain counsel without receiving explicit written authorization from the national leadership.
This directive was announced on Wednesday in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi. The policy change follows reports of unauthorized legal maneuvers carried out by certain state chapters without the knowledge or consent of the national body. Abdullahi clarified that according to the ADC constitution, only the national legal adviser is permitted to issue instructions to attorneys acting on behalf of the party.
State chapters and officials are strictly prohibited from receiving, signing for, or holding onto legal processes. The party declared that any court document delivered to a state-level office will be considered invalid. All such documents must be redirected to the national headquarters in Abuja instantly. If documents are served via substituted means under court orders, they must be scanned and sent electronically to the national legal adviser right away.
The party leadership has warned that failure to adhere to these rules will result in disciplinary action. All state branches are expected to distribute this memo to their members and officers immediately to ensure total compliance.
