ADC Official Calls for Opposition Unity Following NDC Court Ruling

ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi has urged opposition parties to unite against alleged authoritarian pressure following a court ruling that stripped the NDC of its recognition.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) spokesperson, has responded to the Federal High Court in Lokoja’s decision to revoke its previous ruling that granted recognition to the National Democratic Coalition (NDC). Writing on X, Abdullahi characterized the court’s action as evidence that the ruling party is actively pressuring opposition groups. He stated that the reversal highlights how the ruling party is shrinking the democratic space, noting that no opposition faction is safe from such tactics.

The spokesperson further argued that attempting to deregister political entities shortly before an election period reflects dictatorial behavior. He described these efforts as an unprecedented threat to the nation’s political system. In response, Abdullahi called on all opposition parties to form a unified front to protect democracy and safeguard the voting rights of Nigerians. He emphasized that the opposition must remain cohesive to resist authoritarian tendencies, asserting that the survival of democracy depends directly on the strength and persistence of the opposition.
