Supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa organized a peaceful demonstration on Wednesday in Yola to oppose rumors of plans to substitute Omar Suleiman as the party’s governorship nominee for the 2027 elections. Carrying signs, the group gathered at the state secretariat to demand that Suleiman’s status as the confirmed flagbearer be preserved.
Madu Umar, who leads the Frontier Movement Nationwide, addressed the crowd and labeled the reported replacement plans as groundless and divisive. He emphasized that Suleiman was chosen in a primary election that adhered to the party’s constitutional rules. Umar urged the ADC national leadership and the Independent National Electoral Commission to ignore any requests to change the primary election results, warning that doing so would threaten internal democratic processes.
Solomon Nuhu, a party official from Namtari Ward, stated that the protest served to neutralize the efforts of those plotting against the candidate. He stressed that members would fight any move to sideline a legitimate nominee. Aisha Hamidi, the party’s Women Leader, added her voice to the movement, asserting that Suleiman is the ideal choice for Adamawa and calling on the national body to prioritize the will of the members over individual interests.
