Longtime performer Bob-Manuel Udokwu recently offered his perspective on the financial challenges faced by male actors in the Nigerian film industry. He contends that men in the profession often endure greater economic hardship than their female colleagues due to a larger burden of societal and family obligations.
Udokwu argued that, in general, existence is less demanding for women. His comments arose during an interview with Udala, where he expressed frustration over public scrutiny regarding the late John Okafor. When Okafor sought assistance for medical expenses, many social media users questioned how he had managed his career earnings.
Udokwu defended the late actor, noting that earnings from films are often insufficient to provide true financial security given the heavy list of expenses men are expected to cover. He noted that the public frequently fails to grasp the true nature of an actor’s life, mentioning that he was unaware of Okafor’s personal arrangements, such as having multiple wives, which naturally added to his financial commitments.
