The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled July 2 for the hearing of a N10 billion fundamental rights lawsuit initiated by actor and politician Emeka Ike against Lere Olayinka, an aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Justice Salim Ibrahim set the new date after Ike’s legal representative, Leonard Adeh, requested an adjournment to confirm proper service of court documents on the defendants.
The legal action centers on accusations that Olayinka, in his capacity as a ministerial aide, inappropriately shared Ike’s private voter registration details on the social media platform X. Ike alleges this act violated his privacy and involved unauthorized access to restricted data managed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Olayinka reportedly posted these details to challenge Ike’s eligibility following the actor’s unsuccessful attempt to secure a House of Representatives nomination.
While INEC has stated that the incident was not a result of a system-wide hack but rather the misuse of internal access credentials, the actor maintains that the electoral body failed its duty to secure his personal information. Ike’s suit requests that the court issue a declaration of data privacy violation, order the removal of the offensive post, demand a formal written apology, and grant N10 billion in damages against Olayinka and INEC.
