Following a volatile protest in Suleja, the Niger State Police Command detained 139 individuals. Out of this group, 64 were brought to court and sent to a correctional facility. The crackdown was initiated by Commissioner of Police Adamu Abdullahi Elleman on August 4, 2026, using the Violent Crimes Response Unit under the leadership of CSP Hassan Gimba.
SP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the command, noted that the action was a response to reports of illegal assemblies where participants allegedly robbed citizens while brandishing weapons. Intelligence-led raids focused on several areas including Madalla, Kwata, Bakin-Ruwa, and Sabon-Wuse. Law enforcement officials discovered cannabis, knives, scissors, cutlasses, and ammunition among the suspects. Consequently, the 64 individuals were charged at the Suleja Chief Magistrate Court with various offenses, including armed robbery and criminal conspiracy. This operation aims to mitigate persistent security threats and protect local residents from criminal gangs.
