Lagos State officials are ramping up efforts to stop people from harassing drivers and targeting luxury cars on the Lekki Epe Expressway, labeling the practice as a serious crime. Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat shared these plans during a radio interview on Nigeria Info FM, stating that the government is committed to clearing these troublemakers from the transit route to protect citizens.
Hamzat made it clear that extortion and intimidation on public roads are unacceptable. He confirmed that law enforcement has already started clearing the area of unauthorized individuals. The deputy governor noted that many suspects have been apprehended, with some already facing charges in Magistrate Court.
Authorities are using the surveillance camera network installed along the Lekki Epe axis to track and identify offenders. According to Hamzat, several arrests were made over the weekend as the state pushes to end these disturbances through ongoing legal actions.
