The Abia State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded a public apology from Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Chris Nkwonta within two weeks. Failure to comply with this request could result in formal disciplinary action.
This directive was issued by the party’s State Working Committee, led by Chijioke Chukwu, following a session held in Umuahia. The move was prompted by recent public comments made by both politicians expressing support for Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party for the 2027 elections.
Uche Aguoru, the APC Publicity Secretary, stated that these actions were viewed as harmful to the party’s cohesion. The committee cited Article 21.2(11) of the APC Constitution, which allows for punitive measures against members who act against the party’s interests.
The lawmakers have been urged to issue an apology to demonstrate loyalty to their party. If they fail to do so, a disciplinary panel will be established to determine appropriate sanctions as the party prepares for the 2027 electoral cycle.
