A vast number of students across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland are anticipating their A-level results, which are scheduled for release at 08:00 BST on Thursday, 13 August. Simultaneously, the Ucas Hub will provide updates for those who have applied to university.
Grades are assigned on a scale from A* to E. Each exam board determines grade boundaries—the minimum marks required for specific grades—which are released on the day results are published. While some boards like AQA provide historical boundaries on their websites, students should contact their school or college first if they believe their grade is incorrect. These institutions can request a review or, if necessary, initiate a formal appeal with the exam board. Further oversight can be requested through the regulator, Ofqual.
If you miss your required grades, universities may still accept you or suggest an alternative course. Additionally, the Ucas clearing process allows students to secure spots on courses with vacancies until 19 October. Another option is to pursue exam resits in May or June 2027 by consulting with your school. Students might also consider apprenticeships, full-time employment, or taking a gap year. Note that Scotland operates under a separate system, with results issued on 4 August.
