UNILAG Bars Skitmakers, Filmmakers From Using Campus Without Permission
The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has banned the unauthorized use of its campus, hostels, and other facilities for video production by skitmakers, filmmakers, and content creators.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 28, and signed by the institution’s Head of Communication, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, the university said it was concerned about the increasing trend of individuals filming skits, movies, and other content on its premises without permission.
The university said the decision aims to protect its academic environment and safeguard its public image from potential misrepresentation in unregulated productions.
“The attention of the University of Lagos Management has been drawn to the growing use of the University premises, including hostels and other facilities, for filming and cinematographic activities without due authorization,” the statement read.
UNILAG added that it has put in place formal procedures for recording or producing content on campus to maintain safety, order, and decorum, as well as uphold the integrity of its academic and residential spaces. It stressed that students, staff, or external collaborators must obtain official approval from the Communications Unit before filming.
“Members of the University community and the general public are advised to adhere strictly to this directive in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility,” the statement concluded.
