Ekiti State Police Commissioner Michael Falade and Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander Sanya Adeoye have committed to helping the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) address the issues of quackery and impersonation within the media industry. During separate visits in Ado Ekiti, both officials emphasized their willingness to support the union in purging the profession of individuals who are not legitimate journalists but misuse the title.
Commissioner Falade expressed his readiness to assist the NUJ’s Anti-Quackery Task Force. He highlighted the existing positive relationship between the police and the media, promising to provide legal support to ensure the integrity of the profession is protected from those who compromise it. He also praised local reporters for their role in fostering security awareness.
Similarly, FRSC Sector Commander Sanya Adeoye commended journalists for their work in promoting road safety. He pledged that his command would assist the union in identifying and stopping the unauthorized use of NUJ vehicle stickers. Adeoye noted that while the FRSC respects the media, the collaboration is necessary to prevent criminals from using press insignia to conduct illicit activities. These pledges followed a request from an NUJ delegation led by Vice Chairman Olayinka Ilori and committee head Abiodun Olofe.
