The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially integrated the Social Democratic Party (SDP) into the ballot for the upcoming Saturday governorship election in Osun State. Mohammed Haruna, the commission’s National Commissioner and chairman of the information committee, confirmed this update on Wednesday in Abuja.
This decision follows a directive from the Federal High Court in Abuja, which ruled on July 22 in favor of the SDP and its governorship candidate, Dr. Francis Ajala, along with his running mate, Faseke Oladipo. The court mandated that INEC recognize and process Ajala’s candidacy. Consequently, there are now 15 political parties participating in the contest.
To accommodate this change, INEC is currently reprinting both ballot papers and result sheets. Haruna indicated that these documents will reach Osun by August 13 and will be distributed to local government offices immediately afterward, adhering to standard protocols. INEC reaffirmed its pledge to oversee a transparent and credible electoral process.
