INEC Updates Osun Election Materials to Include SDP Candidate

INEC is reprinting Osun State governorship election ballots and result sheets to include the SDP candidate following a court order.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun reprinting ballot papers and result sheets for the upcoming Osun State governorship election. This update ensures that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Dr. Francis Olugbenga Ajala, and his running mate, Faseke Babajimi Oladipo, are officially included on the ballot.

Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, stated that this decision follows a Federal High Court ruling issued in Abuja on July 22, 2026. The court directed INEC to accept and publish Dr. Ajala’s particulars as the valid SDP candidate.

The updated election materials are expected to reach Osun State by Thursday, August 13, 2026. From there, they will be distributed to various local government offices according to standard protocol. This change brings the total number of political parties participating in the August 15 election to 15. The Commission reiterated its promise to hold a transparent and fair electoral process.
