Members of the Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo have formally asked Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to cancel purported plans to hand over a local farm settlement to private developers. The group argues that this land, originally designated for agricultural use in the 1960s, serves as a vital economic foundation for the community.
The petition, signed by Prince Aderemi Olude and Mr. Johnson Adekunle, warns that such an action would undermine the historical contributions of former Western Region Premiers Obafemi Awolowo and Samuel Akintola. The association maintains that the settlement is a shared resource that has supported families for decades and should be upgraded rather than transferred to commercial interests.
The group claims that state-sponsored surveyors have already begun activities on the site, causing significant alarm among long-term farmers who have worked the land for over sixty years. Copies of the formal complaint have been sent to various stakeholders, including the Soun of Ogbomoso, the Inspector General of Police, and relevant federal ministries, signaling the community’s unified opposition to the project.
