Samuel Etaifo, the Commissioner of Police tasked with supervising the Osun State governorship election, has cautioned political figures against the use of violence or inflammatory rhetoric. This directive arrives following the invitation of Senator Francis Fadahunsi for questioning regarding allegedly provocative statements made toward Accord Party members in Ilesa.
Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed the invitation in a Wednesday statement. Commissioner Etaifo stressed that officials must demonstrate restraint and work to lower tensions rather than jeopardize the integrity of the upcoming electoral process. He underscored that the police maintain a neutral stance and will strictly penalize any behavior that threatens civil order or security.
The police clarified that summoning Senator Fadahunsi is a preventative step meant to ensure a secure environment, not a move to intimidate anyone. The department maintains that this dialogue is necessary to facilitate a fair and credible vote on Saturday. All political participants were urged to obey the law and pursue any concerns through established legal channels.
