Hon. Peter Azubuike, the Abia State Chairman of the Labour Party, asserts that his party is better prepared than ever to secure a clean sweep in the 2027 elections. He credits this surge in strength and unity primarily to the effective governance and visible achievements of Governor Alex Otti.
Speaking to journalists in Umuahia, Azubuike noted that the party has successfully consolidated its grassroots presence and reconciled internal factions. He dismissed the group aligned with Julius Abure as a “headless snake,” arguing that it possesses no real political influence or threat to the party’s cohesion.
Azubuike emphasized that the Labour Party is no longer dependent on the political alliances that defined its 2023 performance. Instead, the party now exercises direct control through elected officials, including local government leaders and a vast majority of the State House of Assembly. He noted that the administration’s focus on tangible results has triggered an influx of prominent political figures into the party.
Reflecting on the state’s progress, the chairman remarked that Governor Otti has restored the pride and sense of liberation among the people of Abia. He maintained that the movement surrounding the Governor is organic and long-standing, predating the 2023 presidential campaign. While he remains critical of the Abure faction, he extended an invitation for them to rejoin the party, describing the Labour Party as a large, inclusive household.
