Northwest University Kano (NWUK) has formally dismissed a viral video alleging that the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, struggled with his academic performance. Abubakar Ibrahim, the university’s Public Relations Officer, issued a statement on Tuesday labeling the claims as entirely false and misleading.
The video captured the Emir participating in a public lecture hosted by the International Humanitarian Law Society at the university. Following the event, social media posts incorrectly suggested that the Emir had failed a course and visited the institution to rectify his status. The university administration has explicitly distanced itself from these assertions, stating they lack any factual basis.
The institution encouraged the public to ignore these fabrications and rely solely on official university channels for verified updates. Furthermore, the management issued a warning that individuals found spreading defamatory or false content regarding the university will face legal consequences and be reported to law enforcement. This clarification aligns with previous statements from the Kano Emirate Council, which also categorized the allegations as groundless.
