Bishop Wale Oke: INEC Neutrality Crucial for Nigeria’s 2027 Future

PFN President Bishop Wale Oke urges INEC to remain impartial for the 2027 elections and calls on the government to take decisive action against religious extremists.

Bishop Wale Oke, National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has declared that the survival of Nigeria depends on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) remaining strictly neutral during the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the Agape Christian Ministries’ 38th annual convention in Akure, Ondo State, the cleric emphasized that the electoral body must operate without political interference to protect the nation’s democratic integrity.

Addressing the upcoming political cycle, the Bishop cautioned politicians against prioritizing ethnic or religious interests over competence. He advocated for a balanced approach to leadership representation, noting that alternating religious affiliations between presidential and vice-presidential candidates reflects Nigeria’s identity as a secular state. He urged leaders to move away from religious or ethnic favoritism to ensure equitable governance.

On the topic of national security, Bishop Oke demanded that the government take firm action against religious extremists attempting to force a caliphate system upon the country. He labeled violent acts performed in the name of faith—such as kidnapping and murder—as purely criminal behavior rather than religious practice. He challenged the broader Muslim community to assist law enforcement by identifying radicals within their ranks.

Regarding religious discourse, the Bishop argued that conversion should occur solely through persuasion rather than coercion or violence. He further addressed recent confusion over church titles, clarifying that designations like ‘Senior Pastor’ or ‘Archbishop’ are administrative tools used for organizational efficiency rather than contradictory biblical concepts. He maintained that these structures are necessary adaptations as church organizations expand and require clear leadership hierarchies.
