Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has stated that Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, continues to struggle with the aftermath of his 2022 gubernatorial defeat. Oyetola, who sought re-election under the All Progressives Congress banner, was unsuccessful against Adeleke, who represented the Peoples Democratic Party at the time.
Addressing the matter during an Arise TV town hall meeting on Tuesday, Adeleke responded to comments made by the Minister on Saturday. Oyetola had recently advised the Governor to anticipate a loss in the upcoming August 15, 2026, election, asserting that support from President Bola Tinubu would be insufficient to sustain Adeleke’s governance.
Adeleke dismissed these claims, stating that the former governor is merely pained by the previous election outcome. He accused Oyetola of leveraging federal authority to intimidate political opponents and facilitate arrests. The Governor highlighted the detention of Accord party members, mentioning that he sought intervention from Bishop Matthew Kukah to address the situation. Adeleke maintained that his administration’s accomplishments provide a solid foundation for his success in the upcoming cycle, dismissing the opposition’s tactics as unnecessary.
