ADC chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has expressed strong disapproval of President Bola Tinubu following the President’s public defense of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Okonkwo stated that the President’s role should not be to act as a spokesperson for the electoral body, arguing that this behavior signals a troubling state for the nation. He claimed the President is ignoring significant public skepticism regarding the commission’s integrity.
Okonkwo challenged the President’s claims of INEC’s neutrality by referencing the unresolved technical issues from the 2023 elections. He contrasted the President’s current stance with his past rhetoric, noting that the same individuals who once threatened to challenge election results are now defending the commission. Furthermore, Okonkwo, who represents Atiku Abubakar, suggested that Tinubu’s administration is failing and that he should consider resigning before the 2027 elections.
The ADC representative also touched on legal victories, specifically a Court of Appeal ruling that protected his party from being deregistered. He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of attempting to systematically dismantle opposition parties to solidify power. According to Okonkwo, these maneuvers are direct threats to the stability and health of the democratic process in Nigeria.
