Members of the Ekiti State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit have taken three individuals into custody for cult-related activities and the illegal possession of weapons. The detained men are 33-year-old Aluko Mayowa, 34-year-old Oparinde Samuel, and 37-year-old Mukaila Akintayo.
SP Sunday Abutu, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrests in an official statement. Initial inquiries suggest the trio belongs to the Eiye Secret Confraternity, with each person reportedly acknowledging their specific rank and duties within the organization. During subsequent searches of their properties, officers recovered several dangerous items including a locally crafted pistol, a cutlass, a jackknife, and two different types of axes.
Police are actively searching for other members of the group who have not yet been captured. Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye Michael emphasized that the force remains determined to locate these fugitives and hold them accountable. He also requested that residents stay alert and share reliable information to help the police combat cultism and broader criminal behavior throughout the state.
