Osun authorities detain four for attempted murder and weapons possession

Osun police have apprehended four suspects for attempted murder and weapons possession in Modakeke, while also arresting six individuals following a violent campus disturbance at Osun State Polytechnic.

Law enforcement in Osun State has taken four individuals into custody for their suspected involvement in a conspiracy to commit murder, assault, and illegal possession of firearms in Modakeke, located in the Ife East area. This action followed an official complaint filed with the Commissioner of Police.

DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, representing the police command, stated that officers captured the group during a pre-dawn operation on August 9, 2026. Those detained are Olufemi Olatunji (39), Ajayi Idowu (31), Akingbala Oluwakemi (40), and Adekunle Basirat (40). During residential searches, officers seized a pump-action rifle and a locally crafted cut-to-size gun. Authorities noted that Basirat is the spouse of Solomon Akinlabi, while Oluwakemi is married to Akingbala Akindele. All four remain in custody to assist with further inquiries.

In an unrelated incident, the Violent Crime Response Unit apprehended six people after an armed disturbance at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, which left two students wounded. These suspects are Ajoba Akorede, Adam Oseni, Ogunrinde Ayomide, Ogunlana Muheez, Ajose Noah, and Adeniyi Damola. Akorede and Oseni admitted to their membership in the Aye confraternity, though their student status remains unconfirmed. The command continues to pursue other individuals linked to the Modakeke case and intends to prosecute all suspects once investigations conclude.
