Tracka, a group focused on tracking public spending, has highlighted the crumbling state of the Majaga Primary Health Care Centre located in the Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The organization cautioned that the facility’s decline poses a significant health risk to thousands of locals who depend on it for essential medical care.
Following an inspection, Tracka noted that this is the sole public medical site for the Majaga area. The investigation revealed a lack of critical infrastructure, such as clean water, a pharmacy, diagnostic laboratories, and an area for injections. Furthermore, the consulting and delivery rooms are failing, while the center lacks adequate bedding, wards, and housing for medical staff.
The group emphasized that these shortcomings create dangerous conditions for patients, specifically expectant mothers and those needing immediate care. Consequently, Tracka has formally requested that the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration prioritize the renovation and equipment of the clinic. The organization maintains that functional health infrastructure is vital for rural regions with few alternative options. Local citizens have long petitioned for government investment to improve these failing health services.
