Armed military troops have secured the Osun State Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters in Osogbo as the region prepares for the upcoming governorship election. This move occurred on Monday, marking a significant increase in security protocols for the August 15 vote.
Witnesses noted soldiers carrying weapons stationed at the facility entrance, supported by three Armoured Personnel Carriers meant to fortify the perimeter. Previously, the site was guarded by mobile police units and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. According to an insider, the military arrived Sunday and took primary control by Monday morning. These soldiers will work in coordination with existing police and civil defense teams as the election date nears.
Musa Olurode, the INEC Public Relations Officer for Osun, confirmed the commission has finalized almost all logistical requirements. With 12 of the 13 scheduled tasks completed, the agency is prepared for the final stage. Distribution of sensitive election materials to local government areas is slated for Thursday.
