Peter Ogundeji, who previously sought the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Osun West Senatorial district, has officially defected to the Accord Party. During an event at the Government House in Osogbo, Ogundeji led a large group of followers to his new political home, citing the impressive track record of Governor Ademola Adeleke as his primary motivation.
Reflecting on his past, Ogundeji explained that his previous alignment with the APC stemmed from a lack of political experience. He now believes that Governor Adeleke’s governance, particularly regarding worker welfare and retiree benefits, merits strong public support. Furthermore, he retracted his former criticisms of the administration, characterizing those remarks as standard political maneuvering.
The politician also expressed dissatisfaction with the APC, alleging that the party’s candidate selection process was biased toward influential elites, which hampered his own electoral prospects. Encouraging his peers to follow his lead, he noted that the Governor’s effectiveness has gained recognition from broad segments of the population, including national leadership figures like President Bola Tinubu.
