Soldiers from Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, successfully liberated 18 kidnapped individuals and captured two members of the Lakurawa terrorist faction during coordinated missions in Zamfara State on August 10, 2026. These efforts were prompted by distress signals and reliable intelligence regarding insurgent activities.
Near Sabon Gari village in Kaura Namoda, soldiers confronted militants and secured 18 captives, including Alhaji Aminu Dayau and his family. While some attackers escaped with additional hostages, the military is actively tracking them. In a separate mission, forces detained Abdul Rahman Bouye and Mohammed Jamilu, both Nigerien citizens suspected of aiding the Lakurawa group with logistical support and explosive device placement in the Zurmi region. They are currently being held for transfer to the Department of State Services.
Separately, troops near Tunga and Jambako villages engaged armed groups moving stolen livestock. Although the militants retreated, an RPG blast damaged two tires on a military vehicle; no soldiers were injured. In Tsafe Local Government Area, another military unit pursued kidnappers who fled toward Katsina State after taking three residents hostage. Currently, the regional military command maintains a high state of alert and continues proactive patrols to stabilize the area.
