A series of recent military air raids in the Sambisa Forest has significantly weakened the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Intelligence reports confirm that nine insurgents were killed during the operation on Saturday, August 8, near the Yuwe and Sabil Huda enclaves.
Among those confirmed dead is Qaid Abu Khalid Al Muhajir, a high-ranking commander originally from Maiduguri. Abu Khalid served as a primary escort and logistics coordinator for senior terrorist leadership. His deep knowledge of terrain and hidden transport routes allowed key members to navigate between enclaves while avoiding military detection.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama verified the details, noting that the strikes also targeted militants responsible for ambushing Nigerian troops near the Bita–Yamtage axis in Gwoza. Beyond the fatalities, numerous other fighters suffered injuries, effectively disrupting the local terrorist network.
This mission aligns with broader military efforts to break the command structures and supply lines of insurgent groups in Borno State. The Nigerian military plans to maintain rigorous surveillance and reconnaissance flights to support ongoing ground offensives against these hostile elements.
