Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the vice presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has publicly condemned recent remarks from Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Jingir. In a widely shared video, Jingir suggested that individuals opposed to a Muslim-Muslim political ticket should vacate the country, characterizing Christians as infidels.
Addressing the issue via Facebook, Kwankwaso emphasized that such polarizing rhetoric is dangerous during a sensitive period in Nigeria. He noted that leaders hold a duty to promote harmony and truth rather than division. The former Kano governor explicitly stated that the residents of Kano reject these comments entirely.
Kwankwaso urged citizens to avoid rhetoric that threatens national unity. He also looked toward the 2027 elections, framing them as a chance for voters to reject the current administration’s record in favor of effective leadership.
